A black hole is a region of spacetime with such strong gravitational force. That nothing, not even light, can escape from its depths. Jocelyn Burnell, an astrophysicist from Northern Ireland, warned in 2001, how this mysterious force could mark the end of mankind. Ms Burnell, 75, revealed how in the event of a black hole sucking up Earth. Humans would be ripped apart in a process known as spaghettification.
Also known as the noodle effect. This process includes the verticle stretching and the horizontal compression of objects, caused by extreme tidal forces.
Ms Burnell told Radio 4 listeners in 2001. “If we fell into a black hole, a star-sized black hole, the first thing that would happen is we would begin to feel our bodies being pulled apart.
